The Hoopoe

This video documents the struggle against forced evictions of predominantly Roma community at Přednádraží street in Ostrava, Czech Republic. In August 2012, the Ostrava City Hall decided to evict 100 families in a suspected gentrification scheme without giving them any option where to go. As of January 2013, approximately 50 people are resisting the evictions and working to fix one of the neighborhood buildings.

Witnessing Přednádraží

Jan Keller carries the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in his backpack
It is possible that lifetime under racism has brought him madness
White activists built a circus tent in front of his house for meetings
It doubles up as a petition stand for the sake of the police
Strange times call for strange measures, and I feel strange
Witnessing his suffering is like walking naked through thorny bushes
or running through thorns in a ring

(No, this is not a complaint)
In Přednádraží, 100 people without water for 3 weeks
one water tap opened after protracted negotiations considered a win
the misery of the 21st century
Jan Keller asked: And have you crackers figured out the Bermuda triangle yet?
I did not know what to say then, but I think we can understand the question together
Because people and phenomena act differently when observed.
Because an observer is changed as a result of observation.
